As we swing into baseball season, Douglass Township made a home run with improvements at the Douglass Park baseball field. This was made possible by a donation from the Boyertown Baseball League for roughly $2,800 worth of concrete to improve the area behind the baseball field backstop. It represented roughly 18 square yards of concrete. The baseball field is located just east of the Jackson Road entrance to the park.
Douglass Township's Parks and Recreation Director, McKenna Powanda stated that “Before the backstop area was paved, conditions were often muddy for the players, especially after rain.” This improvement will give more longevity and durability to the baseball field for residents and the baseball leagues to enjoy for years to come.
This project is the latest improvement in Douglass Park. In recent years, other improvements at the park have included improved ADA access to facilities, a basketball resurfacing project, and new play equipment. Upcoming projects in the park include a tennis court and pickleball court surfacing project and resurfacing along sections of the trail.
